227 grams butter (2 sticks)
200 grams sugar
220 grams brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp hot water

Preheat the oven to 350 F (176 C), line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Cream together the butter, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs then stir in the vanilla.
Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with the salt. Stir in flour. Stir in chocolate chips.
Bake the cookies 1 cookie sheet at a time until edges are nicely browned, 10 minutes. Let cool for 5 - 10 minutes, then, using an offset spatula to move the cookies to a cookie rack. Let cool completely and serve.
